Here are some, perhaps unknown to you, tips and tricks you might find helpful about the Polestar 2.
Reset Things
The Polestar 2 is known for having some infotainment and connectivity glitches from time to time and the solution for when things are acting weird is essential to “reboot” or “reset” it!
To reset the infotainment, hold down the home button (the horizontal line at the bottom of the screen) for several seconds. It will go into screen cleaning mode, but keep holding it down for several more seconds and then it will reboot. The reboot can take a minute or two.
The TCAM (Telematics and Connectivity Antenna Module) might need to be reset if you are experiencing connectivity issues. To reboot this, hold down the front window defroster button that is alongside the volume knob for about 20 seconds until the SOS light in the overhead console starts blinking. This reset can also take a few minutes.
Infotainment
Switch between single-zone and dual-zone climate controls by tapping the temperature on the screen and then tapping the lock icon.
Hold down home button for 10 seconds to lock the screen so you can easily clean it with a microfiber cloth. Repeat to go back.
Don’t forget you can say “Hey Google” to make use of many voice commands. For example: “Turn off the steering wheel heat”.
On climate screen, press and hold Auto to reset things back to defaults.
Use the Range Assistant app to change the range calculator from Standard to Dynamic, which is more accurate and based on how you actually drive the car.
Vehicle Control
When cruise control is active, press and hold + or - to go up increments of 1 instead of increments of 5.
The car automatically goes into park when the driver leaves, so you technically don’t need to press the “P” button.
When Creep mode is on, press harder on the brake to hold the car in place. You should see a green H in the driver console to indicate it is holding the brake.
Hold down L/R mirror button simultaneously to fold the mirrors. Press again to unfold.
In reverse you can tilt the mirrors down by double-clicking the L or R mirror button, depending on which one you need to tilt.
Long hold on the door handle on the outside locks the car and closes all open windows.
Key Fob
Long press the unlock button on the key fob to open all the car windows.
Long press the lock button on the key fob to close all the car windows.
You can easily replace the battery in the main key fobs, which use a CR2032.
If the key fob battery dies you can pop out a physical key which can be used with the driver door handle.
The activity key is sealed and its battery is not easily replaced. It is possible to do so, but it may require some soldering skills and will likely also break its water resistance.
Glove Box
There is a small hook you can flip out of the glove box to hold takeout bags.
The glove box has a small clip in it to hold a pen.
Misc
Remove the cupholder under the armrest by pinching the sides and pulling it out.
Set the height that the hatch opens by pressing the button once while it is opening to stop it and then holding the button again until it beeps to set that as the new default height.
Open the hatch with a kick under the bumper, not a foot swipe.
Clean rust off the brakes (which can occur because they are rarely used because of regenerative braking), by finding a safe stretch of road, accelerating to about 40mph and then braking hard-ish.
What are some of your favorite Polestar 2 tips and tricks?
Great review and summary of tips. I am aware of all except the one about the Range Assistant app.
Did not know the double click on the seäide mirrors to tild down. Thanks! Otherwise no news. Ps: I have never, ever needed to reset TCAM or infotainment in my LRDM-21, 60000km. Very fault free car.
