After driving my 2021 Polestar 2 for about five months now, here are some of my favorite things about it.
Exterior Styling
To my eyes, there is no better-looking car. This design is timeless and people are always commenting on how cool it looks. This summer, I’ve actually displayed my Polestar 2 at several car shows that usually only have vintage and sports cars. I’m usually the only EV there and the gear heads with their vintage and custom gas cars always comment on how cool the Polestar 2 looks.
Speed
Being a Launch Edition, my Polestar 2 is the dual motor version and has 408hp. This may not be the highest HP you see on an EV, but it still makes for one speedy car. I love the instant torque and acceleration, which really makes highway merging and passing more fun than they otherwise are. Plus, everyone likes the acceleration demo when I give them test rides.
Comfort
I find the Polestar 2 to be an incredibly comfortable car. The WeaveTech seats are nice and firm with great lumbar. I can drive it for hours and not get uncomfortable. I also like the general quietness of the car, at least compared to other cars I’ve owned. To me, it’s like a tomb inside.
Interior
The interior quality is top-notch. I love the various materials and their textures. I find everything easy to read, reach and use. The ambient lighting also make it an inviting place to be when driving at night.
Speaking of interior, I really like the Infotainment system. Yes, it is not as snappy as I would like, but I don’t find myself jumping around between things while I’m driving, so its slowness does not affect me much. I especially like the large text and buttons, which really helps with readability. I like the way the main screen can be organized and I like that there are not 80 million settings.
The integrated Google Maps works great with route planning and being able to show the map route in the driving console is now a must-have feature for me!
Stereo
Although this is part of the interior, I have to call this out separately. With the 3.6.4 update, the stereo went from a B+ to a A+ for me. In addition to its excellent clarity, it now has a ton of bass, if you want it.
I play music through CarPlay and Apple Music and it sounds phenomenal. I sometimes sit in the car in my garage to listen to tunes!
360 Degree Camera
I back my car into the garage and I am notoriously bad at it. I love having the 360 view which really helps make sure I am able to back in without getting too close (or even hitting) other things. Others hate the beeping and chirping the car does as its sensors warn me of obstacles, but I find them all helpful.
One-Pedal Drive
Most EVs have some form of one-pedal drive, but the Polestar 2 is sublime. It always seems to know exactly where I want to stop. I know it’s not magic, but it sure feels like it sometimes! With a feather-foot on the pedal, you can easily bring the car to a smooth stop. Other EVs either are not as smooth or just won’t quite come to a complete stop. With OPD on my Polestar 2, I’ve taken trips of over 100 miles without having to use the brake pedal at all!
In fact, OPD is so good that it makes it hard for me to switch back to driving a gas car that does not slow down when you ease off the accelerator.
Summary
I could go on and on because there is actually very little about my Polestar 2 that I don’t like, but that will be a subject for another article!
What are some favorite things about your Polestar 2?
Big fan of my 2024, after three BMW i3 leases before that. Excited to see what the successor or evolution to the P2 will be.
Paul, I couldn’t agree more. I have a 2024 and I echo everything you have said. Just a shame that you can’t buy new 2s in the US due to tariffs. That will change soon enough.
